The Generic Structure
My bags are my most favourite belongings. I keep my favourites in there, such as mobile phones, wallet, and books. Sometimes, I keep my jacket, my shoes, and my sandals in there too. My bags are simple but they are really useful. (First paragraph)
The first paragraph of descriptive text should be an introduction paragraph which identifies the object which is going to be described. The writer has already stated the usefulness of the bags as her favorite belongings which should be stated in the body paragraph, so she only makes simple beginning paragraph with the underlined sentence. It seems that the paragraph can be considered as a conclusion.
Furthermore, the object mentioned is not a specific thing. Bags are general things which later will be described as a report composition, not a descriptive composition.
Body
The body of this text contains of three parts which are stated in the second, the third, and the fourth paragraph.
I have many bags in various colors. I have no favourite colors, so I always buy all various of colors. I have light and dark color bags, from white to black. I have pink bags, red bags, yellow bags, brown bags, and black bags. I love all of them. (Second paragraph)
My bags are various in shapes, too. Sometimes I look for unique shapes, such as ovals and prisms. I’ve never seen bags in triangle shapes. Maybe I want to buy it someday. I have bags in rectangle and round shapes. (Third paragraph)
In the second and the third paragraph, the writer describes the color and shape of the bags she has which she loves and will buy someday. These paragraphs strengthen the assumption that this is like a report composition which describes things in general.
I always keep my small belongings in there, such as mobile phones, wallet, and flashdisk. I don’t like to keep there in my pockets because I’m afraid I can drop them easily. I dropped my wallet two years ago. I didn’t want drop anything again. (Fourth paragraph)
In the fourth paragraph, she wrote the similar descriptions about the usefulness of the bags in keeping her belongings which has already been stated in the first paragraph. It is a kind of repetition.
Besides, the writer also shares her bad experience about dropping her wallet. It is not the developed idea should be. It is not in line with the main idea itself about the usefulness of the bags.
Overall, there are three or more developed ideas; each organized into a paragraph. However, the student develops each idea generally.
Conclusion
In the fifth paragraph, the writer only made a conclusion from the last body paragraph which is the fourth paragraph about the important function of the bags. She did not conclude the whole composition.
After analyzing each generic structure and its content, it can be proved that it is not a descriptive composition. It is suitably called as a report composition.
